Matt Fitzgerald

52 Weeks

It's hard to be a good dad on purpose.

Showing up the right way, consistently, takes intention.

The opposite of a sharp intentional dad is a distracted dad, and it’s where most of my regrets in life show up. Ignoring family for work, looking at my phone instead of making eye contact, or a wandering mind when I should be present.

Creative things fuel creative people, with new art, hobbies, and internet rabbit holes to explore. But when left unchecked it can take us away from the most important things happening right in front of us. My wife and kid need my full attention, and I need to feel like I’m becoming the present and intentional man I see in my head.

I want to be in full control of my thoughts and actions, but I’m not going to get there overnight. The 52 Weeks message is a reminder, because I engage in a war with distracted Matt every single week. What started as a weekly video challenge has turned into a reminder for intentional progress, one week at a time.
